History

1950:

Drawing on the grocery store experience of his father Dave, Stanley Ravitz opened his first corner store on Broad and Susquehanna streets in Philadelphia.

1968:

Moving into South Jersey communities, Stanley Ravitz established the family’s first supermarket at the intersection of Chapel Avenue and Kings Highway.

1975:

Stanley Ravitz continued the family’s legacy of providing quality groceries at affordable prices in South New Jersey with the opening of his second store located in the Woodcrest Shopping Center in Cherry Hill.

1979:

With Stanley’s sons Steve and Ron Ravitz entering the business, grandsons Jason, Shawn, and Brett got their first taste of the retail world.

1980:

After purchasing the Ellisburg and Delran Shop N’ Bags in 1979, Stanley Ravitz drove the company’s expansion during the 1980s.

1983:

The Ravitz Family joined the Wakefern Food Corporation and began operating its stores under the ShopRite name. Leveraging the buying power of 200 food stores in seven states, Wakefern has allowed Ravitz Family Markets to raise customers’ standards of living by providing the highest quality merchandise at lower prices.

1994:

Steve and Ron led the construction of the Mount Laurel store, the first built from the ground up by the family.

1999:

With the opening of the Racetrack store, Ravitz Family Markets began its shift from smaller facilities to those with more products and services.

2007:

The Ravitz family acquired three Stop ‘N’ Shop locations and together with its associates, worked around the clock to reopen the stores within 60 days.

2013:

Led by the third generation of Ravitz family members, our company is proud to teach our traditions of philanthropy, excellent customer service, and superior quality products to our employees and their siblings, children, cousins, aunts, and uncles who work daily in our supermarkets.
