REMEMBERING STEVE

Past President of the Supermarkets of Cherry Hill

Steve Ravitz was a larger than life member of the South Jersey community. Prior to his passing from Covid 19 in April of 2020, Steve could be seen at almost every charitable event in our community.   He was quick with a smile and a keen knack of remembering the names of almost everyone he met.

Steve had over 50 years of supermarkets experience starting with his days in the corner store, Dave’s market in Philadelphia. Steve Ravitz lead our company in providing excellent customer service and superior quality products at affordable prices. His key accomplishments included helping to secure Ravitz Family Markets’ membership in the Wakefern Food Corporation, managing the transition of five Shop ‘N’ Bag stores to ShopRite locations, and leading the development of the Kosher Experience.

Steve was especially proud of Ravitz Family Markets’ philanthropic programs and their positive impact on Southern New Jersey communities. As chairman, Steve led the Ravitz Family Foundation in granting funds to non-profits and community groups that aided children and families in need. He also served on the board of the Cooper Hospital Foundation, the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, and Crescent Memorial Park.  Steve was a past president of Crescent Memorial Park and Temple Beth Sholom.

Learning from his father’s work ethic and devotion to customers, Steve worked nights and weekends at his family’s Philadelphia store while attending Saint Joseph’s University. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Dix before obtaining a management position at Ravitz Family Markets. Steve lived in Cherry Hill and Philadelphia and was very proud of his five children and seven grandchildren.
